A celebrated author and professor best known for her works Beloved, The Bluest Eye, Song of Solomon and Sula. She won the Pulitzer Prize for Beloved in 1988, and became the first Black woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, in 1993. She has also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
